Graciela Cano, an exceptional bilingual dual language educator at Harwell ES, was celebrated for receiving the 2023 Humanities Texas Outstanding Teaching Award last Monday.
Estacado HS cheerleaders welcomed staff and students to the gymnasium for this special recognition, where special guest Senator Charles Perry presented the award to Cano. Each year, these awards are presented to educators across the state for their encouraging excellence in teaching the humanities. Cano was one of ten recipients out of 600 educators across Texas who were nominated for the award, and her achievement shows that excellence in teaching the humanities is not only recognized but highly valued. Cano received $5,000 and an additional $1,000 for humanities-based instructional materials for the campus. Cano has been an educator for 28 years, teaching elementary classes and Texas Tech pedagogical courses.
