Talkington SYWL hosted its Enrichment Day before winter break. Academic Enrichment Days are part of the Young Women's Preparatory Network model that provides health awareness, college prep, commitment to service, and personal accountability for lifelong success through these programs and others. From exciting hands-on activities and learning sessions such as a service organization fair, a cultural fair, and creative stations to playing team building games, watching movies, and the popular student and teacher lip sync battle, the students and staff always enjoy this special day of learning.
Several service organizations from the Lubbock area and West Texas were invited to host booths with activities during the Community Service sessions. This event was one of the day's primary attractions, as it allowed all students to find new organizations to join while exploring the different ways they could contribute to their community through service.
During the morning segment of the day, a special presentation with Alex Brock, a student, explained the recent fundraiser created in partnership with WRiTE BRAiN Books. The initiative helped 20 Lady Warriors to become published authors. Afterward, students presented their researched information for the Multicultural Fair to help attendees learn the traditions, history, and customs of different cultures.
One of the most popular segments of the day was the highly anticipated Lip Sync Battle, where student organizations and groups came together with teachers to showcase their singing skills. From coordinated dances to props and impressive costumes, each performance had the entire crowd cheering and laughing.
