Don't throw away last year's AP materials! Donate those to your Talkington sisters! Drop off old guides, notecards, or other study materials in Mrs. Couch's office. We will have an AP Kickoff in August, during which students can take the study materials they need AND learn how to best use them.

Warrior families, Do you know someone who would make a wonderful addition to our staff? We are looking for a certified high school English teacher. They can apply for the position on the LISD applicant portal. THS is a DREAM school for any teacher because our students and families are committed to academics. All certified teachers should apply!

Congratulations to rising seniors Sarah Chen and Camille Powell, who completed a week long camp through the Texas Tech Health Science Center called Summer Enrichment Program. This workshop included lessons about the journey to medical school, medical student interviews, CPR certification, hands on experiences, and much more! We love that our Talkington students take advantage of summer programming. Big thanks to Ms. Cardelli for promoting so many opportunities like this one! Congratulations to rising senior Amarachi Uche-Eboh! She has been selected as a Ford Leadership Scholar. According to their website, "The Ford Leadership Scholars program is a result of the Texas FFA Foundation and Texas Ford Dealers partnership to enhance the leadership opportunities of Texas FFA members. The purpose of the program is to: 1) Identify students who exhibit high levels of leadership at the chapter level. 2) Engage these identified students in a leadership development program created to enhance those qualities of leadership. 3) Recognize the Scholars to build a remarkable legacy for the future of our state and nation. The objective of the training week is to equip students to go back to their communities to develop substantial and sustainable community service capstone projects." We continue to be absolutely amazed by this young woman, as she consistently finds ways to reject average and embrace excellence to better our school, student organizations like FFA, and herself. Way to go, Amarachi!

We are incredibly proud to announce our new counselor, Beatrice Aguilar. Ms. Aguilar has been in education for 12 years, all of those as part of the O.L. Slaton community, where she taught 8th grade math and Algebra I Pre-AP and served as a counselor. She has worn many hats including math instructional coach, testing coordinator, LPAC coordinator, and 504/SST leader, and DOI/ASUD Drug intervention campus facilitator. She has a passion for helping students reach their educational and personal goals, and she loves to help students prepare to pursue higher education. She is excited to work with our wonderful students, staff, and families. We know you will all love her! Welcome to the Warrior family, Ms. Aguilar.

Warrior Family, please help us welcome our new theatre teacher, Emily Hooper. Ms. Hooper graduated from Lubbock Christian University with a Theatre Education degree. She has been involved in theatre since she was very young, being on and off stage as a director, actor, lighting and sound technician, and stage manager. She was awarded the academic excellence award from LCU’s School of Education and the outstanding theatre award from LCU’s School of Fine Arts twice. She is currently working on co-directing the Elementary LISD theatre camp for the third year in a row. We know she will continue to grow our program here, and we cannot wait to see the amazing productions she will oversee. Welcome to the Warrior family, Ms. Hooper!

We are so excited to welcome our new 7th grade social studies and Senior Seminar teacher, Toia Allison! Mrs. Allison is a product of LISD, having attended having attended Waters Elementary, Hutchinson Middle School, and Monterey High School. She pursued higher education on a basketball scholarship at Blinn College and Wayland Baptist University, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. She also earned a Master's Degree in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University. She comes to us from Atkins, where she dedicated the past ten years to teaching a mix of 8th and 6th-grade social studies, as well as AVID, in addition to many campus leadership roles. We are so very lucky to have this amazing teacher as part of our Warrior family. Welcome aboard! We know you will continue to change lives!

We had several local winners who shared their essays and received their prize money at the Veteran's Day celebration at Talkington last year, as many of you may remember. If you want to participate, get to work on your essay.
